About Jean M. Gustafson

I graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1991. I was a member of Law Review, and worked at the Thormodsgaard Law Library while attending law school.

I attended a summer term at the University of Oslo, Norway and studied international legal studies there with law students from former Soviet block nations.

After Law School, I worked as a mental health counselor in a Rule 36 home for serious and persistently mentally ill persons including administering neurotic medications as well as overseeing patient health and activities. This training provided me with a thorough background of various physical and mental diagnoses. I have used this training in working with persons who are facing civil commitment. and have successfully represented clients appealing civil commitment orders.

I am currently taking online classes to achieve my Master’s level Certificate of Reading from Mankato State University. This training has helped me understand persons with educational difficulties including working with students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

I am significantly involved in the community and have served on such boards as the Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center (LAPS) board, church boards in Crosby, Minnesota and presently serve as secretary for the Gordon Rosenmeier Board for State and Local Government.

Jean Gustafson's journey into fitness was physical, spiritual and emotional. "I hadn't exercised in years and needed to challenge myself in a new way." She walked into Heidi's class alone and didn't know what to do, but kind of followed the crowd. After class, she pulled Heidi aside to introduce herself and immediately felt accepted. "She's very sweet and I loved the individual attention she gave me."

Four years later, Jean is still a work in progress. "Heidi's Group Power classes have enabled me to become this strong, dynamic, caring, loving person that can take on a lot of challenges; a lot of cases I never would have taken on before as an attorney." She added, "This is a difficult field. It's highly competitive and you have to stay strong."
